Volunteers

Get Involved!
MA Odyssey is run entirely by volunteers, and we are always in need of enthusiastic people to help us at our tournament and throughout the year.

Each participating team is required to provide at least one judge and one non-judging volunteer to ensure fair representation and adequate staffing resources for the state tournament. However, we also welcome alumni, friends, family, and kind folks who would like to volunteer to be a part of the MA Odyssey family!

Please contact us at info@maodyssey.org if you are interested in volunteering! Volunteers are needed to:

    • Judge at the tournament. This involves a half-day training session, usually held about 2 weeks before the tournament, in late February or early March, as well as attendance at the full-day tournament, held on a Saturday in early or mid-March. Check out tournament and judges’ training information on the Tournament page. If you know you want to judge, contact judges@maodyssey.org! Registration will be online, and if you are NOT affiliated with a team, you can register to judge later this fall once the system is active. Team-affiliated judges should be in contact with their team’s coach to ensure the team enters their contact information on the team registration (team-affiliated judges do not need to register themselves).
    • Volunteer in a non-judge role at the tournament. This involves 2-3 hours of volunteering in positions such as the registration table, sales table, score runner, competition doorkeeper, etc. No training is required.
    • Recruit new teams. We are always looking to spread the word about Odyssey of the Mind to new schools and districts in MA. You can assist by talking about the program to friends and colleagues. Feel free to have them contact us at info@maodyssey.org for more information or to set up an informational presentation. If you would like to assist with the delivery of informational presentations by sharing your experiences and tips, let us know!
    • Judge at World Finals! If you have been trained and judged in a particular year & have 3 or more years of Odyssey of the Mind judging experience (in any state or country), you qualify to be nominated to be an official at World Finals. If you do not meet these requirements, however, additional experience may be taken into account on a case by case basis. If you would like to be considered for nomination, let us know at judges@maodyssey.org.
